A severe weather warning for damaging winds has been issued for people in the Snowy Mountains and parts of South Coast, Southern Tablelands, Australian Capital Territory and South West Slopes Forecast Districts.
The Bureau of Meteorology said vigorous northwesterly winds ahead of a cold front crossing the south today, will result in a risk of damaging winds about southeastern NSW.
Above 1900 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts of around 110 km/h are likely over alpine areas above 1900 m during Wednesday, easing by late afternoon.
Remainder of the warning area: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible during Wednesday, easing by late afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Thredbo Top Station, Braidwood, Cooma, Bombala, Bredbo, Adaminaby and Nimmitabel.
105 km/h wind gust has been recorded at Perisher Valley at 4:12 am.
102 km/h wind gust has been recorded at Thredbo Top Station at 2:00 am.
63 km/h mean winds recorded at Bombala at 9:42 am.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
