Heavy rain and flooding hits Far South Coast

A man has been found safe despite being missing as heavy rain and flooding hit the Far South Coast over the weekend.

Eurobodalla and Sapphire Coast SES crews attended 27 jobs in the region since 9am Friday. These included tree clearing, flood assistance, making repairs to leaking roofs and helping South Coast police successfully locate a missing man near Batemans Bay.

A 52-year old man was reported missing around Batemans Bay on Saturday morning with South Coast Police appealing to the public for information.

He was last seen on Runnyford Road around 7am on Thursday and police and family held concerns for his welfare.

SES crews joined NSW Police to search for the man in horrendous conditions on Saturday, and located him at Runnyford later on Saturday.

Meantime, a Minor Flood Warning is current for the Deua River at Wamban but conditions are easing.

“We saw some minor flooding on Deua, Moruya and Bega Rivers over the weekend and around the Moruya and Bega townships as well,” Eurobodalla SES Commander, Mike Day said.

“From 9am Friday to 6pm Sunday, Moruya Airport and Tuross Head have seen 150mm of rain, with 170mm recorded in Bodalla.”

Commander Mike Day had this message for motorists along the Far South Coast.

“If you’re out on the roads please travel safely, it’s still very wet,” Commander Day said.

“Remember to never drive, ride or walk through floodwaters and if you need more information on preparedness regarding floods and storms visit ses.nsw.gov.au.”

The wet weather has caused several power outages along the Far South Coast as well.

More than 1800 people in Malua Bay lost power on Saturday night after a car collided into a power poll.

There are currently 43 without electricity in Tuross Head after an outage just before 10pm on Sunday while 25 customers in Currowan have been without power since around midnight on Saturday.
