Dalmeny lawn bowlers say their biggest fear is management is planning to sell off the bowling club to the highest bidder for the site to be redeveloped or leased to another party.
There are currently restrictions under the Registered Clubs Act on what the land including Club Dalmeny building and bowling greens can be used for, if it was to be sold.
The board, which manages the facility and Club Narooma, announced last month it will close the Greens mid next year to save costs.
84-year-old bowler Peter Benson, who’s grandfather originally owned the land that is now Dalmeny, said he’s been asking if the site is still classified as ‘core property’.
“Not having heard about any change in the zoning I would have thought the people of Dalmeny would have been at least notified but they said ‘ol no it’s changed tp recreation and aged care’,” Mr Benson said.
“Nobody had heard about until I’d asked the question what about the zoning,” he said.
Lawn bowlers say they would rather drive further north to Bodalla to play than support the nearby Club Narooma, who have decided to close the greens at Club Dalmeny.
“We feel that we’d rather have a car pool or something or other to take everyone up there, designated drivers to do that,” Mr Benson added.
“I think that would apply to at least two thirds of our members,” he said.
“We’ve had members from Narooma already joining our club because they feel it’s better (ha ha), it is a better club.”
