Bega Valley Shire Council has voted to take over responsibility for the Twyford Theatre Complex in Merimbula.
The decision at yesterday afternoon’s meeting follows a request to do so by the organisation’s board with $333,000 from a council loan still outstanding.
Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick told the chamber there will be an ongoing cost implication for ratepayers like with all other community facilities.
The council refused a second request from the Theatre board to hand back a previous $37,000 loan repayment.
Twyford Hall Committee Board Chair Frankie J Holden told the meeting he doesn’t regard their current dire financial situation as a crisis at all.
He said the Twyford has a very bright future if changes are made to the way it operates as the current revenue streams unfortunately can’t support a full time staffing model.
