The first official local candidate for next year’s State Election has been revealed.
Lifetime Bega Valley resident and hospitality worker Emma Goward is standing for the Greens in the Bega electorate. She previously stood for the party at the Federal Election last year in Eden-Monaro.
Sitting Labor MP Michael Holland is keen to go around again and is waiting in the formal pre-section promise after recently re-nominating for the job.
Emma said there are many key issues for locals and she’s keen to hear about them.
“I think cost of living is going to be the biggest one for this people can’t afford groceries they can’t afford their rents that’s going to be top I think for most people this this time around,” Ms Goward said.
“Look I’m not the most articulate of candidates. I am not a career politician, I’m not a lawyer so I’m easy to talk to,” she said.
“I had so many conversations with people last time round that said I don’t do politics and I was like well are you a renter do you do you have kids in school are you using childcare you do do politics and if you don’t do politics, politics is gonna do you.
“I just wanna keep having those conversations with people now more than ever.”
“Labor have just been a constant string of disappointments and we’ve got One Nation on the rise and people are flocking to them and I can’t blame them because they are they are an alternative to the major parties,” Ms Goward said.
“The Greens could be a really great progressive alternative to Labor for all these promises that they made that they are just not keeping,” she said.”
