A man has tried to dodge the media after facing court for threatening a group of people he claims waged a public persecution campaign against him.

Batemans Bay Local Court yesterday found the charge against Alessandro Tine from Queanbeyan proven but spared him a conviction and criminal record after negotiating to have two other charges against him dropped.

The court heard Tine told a group of people “I know where you live.”

His lawyer told the court the incident would never had happened if his son not found guilty of a savage assault in the Bay then acquitted on appeal but conceded the words used constituted a vailed threat.

The defence solicitor tendered four references for Tine including one from Queanbeyan Palerang Shire Mayor Kendrick Winchester.

Tine was placed a two-year good behaviour bond.

As he left the courthouse the 59-year-old covered his face with paperwork before seeking shelter in the police station next door for about half hour. He eventually made a run for it with his suit jacket over his head.
