Dalmeny locals may have noticed signs around Mummaga Lake to stop people swimming due to a health concern.
Eurobodalla Shire Council has posted the signs after tree roots in a sewer pipe caused a sewer overflow in Attunga Street, Dalmeny, last Friday.
Eurobodalla Council’s work crews cleared the choke, disinfected the area and topsoiled the affected site on the day.
Sewage may have impacted Mummaga Lake in Dalmeny though hence the installation of warning signs.
Water samples were taken and council said the signage is a warning only and the risk to public health is minimal.
A Council Spokesperson told East Coast Radio sewage overflows do occasionally happen.
“They are primarily from high inflows during wet weather or tree roots getting into the sewer pipes,” they said.
“The signs will be removed once lab results confirm the lake’s water quality is sound, likely later this week.”
