The State Government is under fire this morning over the lack of available housing for new staff coming to work at the Eurobodalla Regional Hospital.

Southern NSW Local Health District was given $24-million last year to acquire properties for workers but to date have only purchased five.

But Local State MP Michael Holland said he doesn’t think housing will be a problem.

“People who are employed in the health system will be living from Batemans Bay to Narooma so there will be no shortage of housing,” Dr Holland said.

“The NSW Government is working with local government to improve housing availability and I believe it will have a big influence on the rental market in our region,” he said.

“We’ve already seen people realising that with the building of the hospital workers come here and owners can really look at converting what was previously short term rentals into long term rentals and that is still going to be effective for them with their investment.”

Staff and carer accommodation is also set to be built on the grounds of the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital site in Moruya but that is still several years away.

“Well, that’s the whole reason why we needed a 20 hectare site because it needed to include room for staff accommodation. We also needed room for carers accommodation and I acknowledge the people in the community who are working hard on that,” Dr Holland said.
