In a prompt and coordinated response, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) 286 Eden, 286 Hazmat, and 395 Merimbula were dispatched to a reported house fire in Eden around 10:50 am Wednesday morning. Initial concerns were raised about a possible person trapped upstairs.
Upon arrival, the scene unfolded with ominous black smoke and flames emanating from a second-story window. The officer in charge quickly sought additional support through FRNSW fire communications, leading to crew members gearing up with breathing apparatus for a search and rescue operation.
Thankfully, the occupant was not present during the incident, allowing firefighters to swiftly address the flames and bring the situation under control. The fire, contained primarily to the kitchen area, left extensive smoke damage in the upper part of the structure. Remarkably, no injuries were reported.
After successfully extinguishing the fire and ensuring the safety of the premises, FRNSW Eden officer investigated, determining the cause to be an electrical fault.
In the aftermath of this incident, a crucial message emerges – the importance of having functional smoke detectors.
