Bega Valley Shire Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick has told a council meeting the community just wants the council to get on with building a new two lane Cuttagee Bridge.

Councillors have voted to endorse a recommendation from the General Manager Anthony McMahon to formally seek full funding for the long running project after a new offer from the State Government.

The decision came less than 24 hours after an appeal by the new Restoration of Cuttagee Bridge Group during a meeting with councillors and Mr McMahon at Murrah Hall.

Mayor Fitzpatrick told the meeting…this is not an option.

“The council’s not in a position to defer it,” he said.

“We need to keep going ahead with the funding deed and trying to get full funding otherwise it will come back to us and how we can do it and it’s in our long term financial plan.

“The best result for us as a council and our community is to have the state fully fund the project. That’s what we’re asking for and any variance of that comes back to council.”
