The Country Women’s Association of New South Wales, Bermagui & District Branch are set to receive
$200,000 towards their affordable housing project thanks to the NSW Government, as part of the $37.2 million Local Small Commitments Allocation Program.

The Local Small Commitments Allocation Program will enhance local communities and provide $400,000 in benefits to people to each of the 93 NSW electorates. It will consist of over 600 small community projects, ranging from capital works, services and programs, events, supplies and equipment, charitable donations, and playground and park upgrades.

The funds delivered as part of the Local Small Commitments Allocation program will construct two new units of affordable housing to help address the impact of the current housing crisis. The accessible units will benefit older people with impaired physical mobility through providing permanent accommodation significantly below a commercial rental rate.

The housing will be energy efficient and employ environmentally friendly and sustainable technology. Housing insecurity is having a significant impact on older members of the community, with long-term tenants facing homelessness when rental homes are redeveloped or sold. This grant will provide the extra funding needed to complete this project.

The NSW Government has committed funds to the program which will help small local projects and programs that strengthen communities and provide improvements at a local level, making NSW an even better place to live.

Dr. Michael Holland, Member for Bega said members of the Bermagui and District CWA have been working hard on the planning and preparation of their affordable housing project and this will be welcome news for them.

“I am delighted that the funds from the Local Small Commitments Allocation program can assist in some way towards offering a housing solution for those in need of the security of a home,” said Dr. Holland.
