The developer of a controversial large multi townhouse and unit project in Dalmeny has told Eurobodalla Shire Council his proposal would provide the coastal village with much needed jobs.
Steve Stefopoulos responded after several residents pleaded with councillors yesterday afternoon to not approve the plan for 13 Noble Parade.
Mr Stefopoulos told councillors…everyone in Dalmeny are going to benefit from this.
“The IGA, the petrol station, the baker, the concrete supplier, the rio, windows, roofers, Lachie is a neighbour of mine is moving to Canberra because he’s got no work,” he said.
“”Mitch was telling me Steve have you got any work for me? People are chasing me for work because there is not enough here.”
Nearby Dalmeny resident Roslyn said the housing project does not meet the planning criteria of a coastal village.
She told the meeting the project is not appropriate for the location.
“The scale and density of this multi dwelling proposal does not reflect Dalmeny’s low-density coastal setting and are inconsistant with the core objectives of the very Eurobodalla Settlement Strategy,” she said.
Another told the meeting unit and townhouse development would dwarf every home around it.
Dan told councillor the community village spirit was at risk.
“Your decision will permanently alter the daily lives of everyone living in and visiting Dalmeny and the uniqueness that makes it a village,” he said.
“I encourage you to think about the long term impact of your vote.
“You can prioritise the short-term developer yields or you can look at the long term community preservation.”
When it came to making a decision councillors voted 7-2 to approve the development application.
