The Group 16 Senior Rugby League Competition is set to introduce new rules around the management of concussions in the game.

This season, which kicks off on the last weekend of next month, will see the inclusion of an 18th player.

Chair Ray Inskip said the emergency player will only be activated under certain conditions.

“This year we’re bringing in the 18th man. He will sit on the bench, have a special vest on, and then if the team lose a player through concussion this fellow then can be used,” Mr Inskip said.

“He will either come on as an interchange straight away or he’ll just sit on the bench and take his vest off, but that player that goes off cannot come back on,” he said.

The competition will officially kick off on the ANZAC Day Long Weekend.
