Bega Valley Shire Council has confirmed controversial works undertaken along Beach Street in Merimbula are definitely only a trial at this stage.
The position comes after calls by the town’s Business Chamber to halt all works in the CBD until the situation was clarified.
Following a meeting with the mayor and CEO on site yesterday…the council has issued a statement which reads “To be clear, the works undertaken are reversable.”
But they added “Should Beach Street return to two-way, Council would need to consult with Transport for NSW to confirm optimised parking arrangements that Transport would support.”
Also as a result of the meeting yesterday some changes have been made to the remaining proposed works.
This includes building the new playground where the existing one is with the majority of garden beds adjacent to the Waterfront Café to remain in place.
The brick seating near the large tree will now be reconfigured to retain the tiered design.
