Surfside homeowners have welcomed a move to partially rebuild protective sand dunes that have been washed away by tidal inundation.
The State Government has provided funding to Eurobodalla Shire Council to conduct scraping of sand along a 450 metre section the beach after a loud campaign for action by residents.
Spokesperson Craig Lyttle said this means less fear their homes will be destroyed.
“It’s about 12 metres that we’ve lost down to nothing and they’ll build it back to about five to six metres apparently,” he said.
He said they look forward to working with the State Government and the Council on a more permanent solution to protect their homes.
“I think we move forward now and try to get the Coastal Management Plan changed, if we can, to include a hard stand or some sort of rock wall or something here.”

Mr Lyttle praised the advocacy work done by local state MP Michael Holland.
“He’s been working here with the community on a regular basis. He communicated with us all the time. He’s been pushing for this emergency funding through the NSW Government and he’s done a great job.
“He’s been absolutely wonderful.”
