A South Coast tradesman is being hailed as a small town hero after helping a local teenager who was down on his luck.

Ulladulla High School student, Jayden Watt, was extremely disappointed after he failed his Learner Permit test at the Ulladulla Service NSW Office, earlier this week.

Jayden’s mum, Mandy Mair, told East Coast Radio an unknown man who was getting his registration done in the Service NSW Centre in Ulladulla at the same time must have heard their conversation.

“He obviously overheard what happened and saw Jayden a bit bummed, so he handed Jayden a $50 note and said “There you are bud, go get your licence and drive on out of here today.”

“I said you can’t do that and he goes ‘Don’t worry I just did, then he ran out of the store,” Mair said.

“I was like oh my gosh and I looked over at my son and he had his head in his hands, he just couldn’t believe it and he said “Who does that?”

It proved to be the right amount of money and motivation to inspire the teenager to do the test again right away.

“He (Jayden) went up, handed the cash over, re-did the test and passed his L’s with flying colours, got 100%,” mum Mandy said.

“Thank you to this amazing samaritan that made my son’s day.”

Jayden drove his mum home to Conjola, later that day.

Mandy posted the story to the Ulladulla Noticeboard in the hope that she may be able to find the man and give him a proper thank you.

“I even tried to get the guy’s name (from Service NSW),” Mair said.

“I said “Who was that guy at Counter 2? I need to thank him,” she explained.

“They said “Oh he just came in and re-did a rego” so they apparently couldn’t tell me his name.”

“Hopefully someone knows a tradie-looking bloke who was re-doing his rego at the Service NSW office in Ulladulla between 1-2pm on Tuesday (November 8).”
