The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Heatwave Warning for the South Coast District for three days starting today.

Severe heatwaves that are set to hit our region today, tomorrow and Saturday can be dangerous for many people in our community, especially babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as older people, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.

Maximum temperatures are set to reach the low to mid thirties with minimum temperatures in the mid to high teens in the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla.

The mercury is set to hit 33 in Bega on Friday and 35 in Batemans Bay on Saturday.

Locations likely to be impacted by the heatwave include Batemans Bay, Bega and Eden.

The Bureau advise people in the area should seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.

The recommendations include closing windows and drawing blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your place of residence and if available, using fans or air-conditioners to keep cool as well as drinking plenty of water.

For information on staying safe during a heatwave go to the NSW Department of Health website.
