An analysis has found Bega Valley Shire Council has had to increase regulatory functions by 25 percent in the last 4 years.
The revelation comes as a new report on cost shifting from the State and Federal Governments slugs local ratepayers an extra $500 a year.
Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said all the extra work from Sydney and Canberra comes without the money to pay for it.
“People always say look at how many staff council have. Every politician tells me they want to reduce red tape and green tape every time they run for election and what happens,” he said.
“Here is the proof that its increased by 25%. Now that 25% increase means we have to have more compliance officers to cover that or we have to have more environmental officers to cover that.
“All of these things, to do their legislation forced by either state of federal government.”
