A community group campaigning to retain a wooden bridge say they are waiting for an update on the design options.

Save Cuttagee Bridge has spent the past four years demanding the historic bridge’s replacement is made of timber not concrete.

Group spokesperson Sheena Boughen said she’s heard the three options will be revealed in September.

“We don’t know what that means. We don’t know if it’s just an open random comments that unfortunately would be uninformed from the public or whether there’ll be a structured approach with people there to answer questions,” she said.

“But I can tell you Save Cuttagee Bridge will be using some information and fact sheets to help people understand and interpret the offerings.”

The group have also questioned why it’s taking Bega Valley Shire Council so long to release the findings of public feedback on the options for the Cuttagee Bridge.

The call for comment followed a community led petition which has gained more than 15,000 signatures demanding a new one lane timber hybrid bridge.

Ms Boughen said it’s been almost three months since submissions closed.

“We’re curious. Is it not being released because there is something to hide or is it because they don’t value and just tick the box?”

Ms Boughen is encouraging the community to contact Bega Valley Shire Councillors to ask them these questions.
