The Premier Chris Minns says it’s great to see so many local parents choosing to send their children to Batemans Bay High.
The public school has had an increase in enrolments in recent times as its reputation increases in the community with many students chosing to transfer from private schools.
Mr Minns said it’s vital to him that a great education is available through government schools.
“It’s a choice for parents. It’s a choice for them about as to where they send their kids. We know that that’s really important, probably the most important decision that they’ll make,” Mr Minns said.
“We want to make sure that there’s a world-class public education option for parents everywhere in the state and that’s certainly the case here in Batemans Bay and Moruya,” he said.
The Premier has praised principal Paula Brennan, her staff and students following his latest visit to the Batehaven campus with local State MP Michael Holland.
They checked out recent upgrades to the Science Labs during his trip to the Far South Coast at the end of last week.
He said staff are doing a great job and the students are a credit also.
“There has been significant upgrades. We’re putting millions of dollars into the school,” Mr Minns said.
“They’ve got new food technology, vocational education and training kitchens as well as five science labs including 3 prep rooms, an upgrade to the woodwork room and upgrades to the metalwork rooms,” he said.
“It’s a long overdue investment, but one that we regard as just that, an investment, not a cost for the budget but a chance to to the future and make sure we’re investing in kids.
“It was really good to be there. Great school. Fantastic principal. Fantastic to see the money going to where where it needs to go but more importantly, the quality of the kids. I mean, you know, respectful kids. I’ve been there a few times to the school and can’t wait to visit in the future. The school has a great principle.”
