NSW Senator Jim Molan passes away

Senator Jim Molan has died at the age of 72 after a battle with cancer.

The Molan family issued a statement today (January 17) that said “It is with profound sadness we share that, following a sudden and rapid decline in health after Christmas, Jim died peacefully on 16 January 2023 in the arms of his family.”

“He was many things – a soldier, a pilot, an author, a volunteer firefighter, and a Senator.”

“Most of all, he was an adored husband, father, grandfather and brother.”

“Our loss is immeasurable, but we are comforted by our memories of a full life courageously lived, devoted to family and in service of the country he loved.”

“We thank you for your thoughts and prayers, and for respecting our privacy at this difficult time.”

Bega Valley Shire Mayor Russel Fitzpatrick who is also a Liberal candidate at the upcoming state election said he has fond memories of the late NSW Senator.

“Jim has been a personal friend and full condolences to his wife and family,” Mayor Fitzpatrick said.

“He’s also been a great friend of the Bega Valley Shire with assisting us with lobbying for grants and other things,” he continued.

“I’m very sad on his passing and sending condolences to his family, children and his grandchildren, I know how close he was to all of them and how much they respected and admired him.”

Mr Molan is the father of popular media personality Erin Molan.

The Liberal Party will select someone to fill his place in the Senate for the remainder of his term.

RIP Jim Molan – 1950 – 2023.
