Moves to provide a protective barrier for beachfront homes at Surfside will continue this weekend.
Landcare volunteers from Batemans Bay will gather on the northern end of the beach to plant around 1000 trees into new sand dunes following the competition of sand scraping.
The works jointly funded by the State Government and Eurobodalla Shire Council after a vocal community campaign by impacted home owners calling for action.
Eurobodalla Shire Council’s Heidi Thompson says work involved moving sand from the inter-tidal area.
“We’re using local dune species, the normal species that would grow in a coastal environment like that,” she said.
“Obviously it’s very harsh conditions so obviously only the right species will grow there so things like spinifex, lamandras, pig face, salt bush.
“Those things will grow there and help to hold the sand together.”
