Bega’s new police station has been officially opened, several weeks after it began operating.
Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon joined the Minister Yasmin Catley and local MP Michael Holland at the event yesterday.
Commissioner Lanyon said it was time for a new home with the old police station serving the community for 75 years.

“What’s really important and exciting about this new police station is what it houses,” he said.
“So we’ll have general duties, we’ll have detectives, we’ll have highway patrol, we have a forensics laboratory here which is really exciting.
“For the people around Bega it enables us to process crime scenes quicker. It enables us to provide quick service to the community and solve crime and that’s what the NSW Police Service is about.”
Local State MP Michael Holland welcomed the opening of the new station.
The project was significantly delayed after the original builder went bust.
Although this also caused a budget blowout Dr Holland said the end result is great for local police and the community.
“At the end of the day $23 million for what we got is money well spent in terms of the security we have from our police officers that work so hard,” Dr Holland said.
