Police Minister Yasmin Catley and the Premier’s Department have refused to answer some questions about the arrest of her driver for high range drink driving.
The 55-year-old man allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading more than three times the legal limit after his arrest on the side of the Snowy Mountains Highway at Bemboka.
The man, who is employed by the department, will face court on December 23 charged with high range drink driving.
The Minister didn’t front for a pre-arranged interview with us yesterday while she was in town and wasn’t in the mood to talk about it at a media conference for the opening of the new Bega Police Station.

“The circumstances around this incident are very concerning. It is illegal to drink and drive in this state and no one is above the law. This matter is now before the court and I will not be making further comment,” Ms Catley said.
“The Ministerial drivers are employed by the Department of Premier. It would be more appropriate that you direct your questions to them,” she said.
So we asked the Premier’s Department a series of questions on the incident.
They responded with a brief, bland short statement that didn’t answer any of the questions.
