Longer waiting times at our hospital emergency departments

Around ten and a half thousand visits were made to Far South Coast hospital Emergency Departments over the last quarter of 2025.

The Bureau of Health Information released the stats for October to December at Batemans Bay, Moruya and South East Regional.

A five percent drop in the number of patients treated on time at South East Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department were recorded.

Bureau Director Lilian Daly said only 65 percent of those going to the ED were seen on-time.

“At Southeast Regional Hospital, there were over 6100 emergency department attendances. That’s down 2.4% compared with the same quarter a year earlier,” Ms Daly said.

“However, the number of patients presenting with more urgent conditions increased. That’s triage category 2 and triage category 3, which were up by 34.5% and 15.5% respectively,” she said.

.”There was a significant drop in the number of patients presenting with non-urgent conditions. That’s triage category 5, which was down by around 66%.”

Almost 78 percent of patients were seen within set time targets at Batemans Bay, down 4 percent on the same period a year earlier while at Moruya almost 71% of all patients started their emergency department treatment, down slightly compared with the same quarter a year earlier.
