A man is fighting for life in hospital after a vicious early morning home invasion at Tomakin.

Police and paramedics were called to a house in Yarralumla Crescent just before 1am on Monday morning, following reports of an assault.

Upon arrival they discovered a 39-year-old man suffering from serious injuries.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before transporting him to Mourya Hospital, where he was transferred to the air ambulance before being flown to Sydney.

He is currently listed as critical but stable.

A 77-year-old woman, who was also in the home at the time, was not injured.

Police are still investigating how the offenders, who were both wearing face coverings, got into the house, and crime scene investigators will be at the scene for much of the day.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident, or who was in the area at the time and have dashcam or mobile phone footage, to contact Batemans Bay Police Station on 4472 0099, or the Crime Stoppers hotline on 1800 333 000.
