A State Parliamentary Inquiry has been launched into potential planning reforms to make it easier for landowners on the Far South Coast to have a second dwelling on their land.
The Select Committee on Rural Housing and Second Dwellings Reform will examine issues such as the placement of tiny houses on wheels.
Inquiry Chair. Libertarian MLC John Ruddick said current laws make it too hard.
“At the moment it is not impossible but it’s almost impossible to build a second residence because of lots of little council rules,” Mr Ruddick said.
“What we’re trying to say is to take out the local council in having a say in this. If you own a rural residential property and you’ve got a residence on there you can build a second residence and you build it as you see fit.”
Mr Ruddick has called on Far South Coast residents to lodge submissions on the issue with the inquiry Committee by October 10.
