A happy ending for a male seal discovered in Batemans Bay with injuries from a boat motor.

Police responded to the promenade yesterday morning after passers-by noticed the animal with serious cuts to its body.

Police Chief Inspector John Sheehan said they called in a vet and local ORRCA volunteers.

“They assessed it and obviously looked at the treatment. Obviously the main treatment for an animal such as this is allowing it to recuperate and not be stressed,” Chief Inspector Sheehan said.

“From info we’ve received I think he’s been hanging around the foreshore area for probably the last month so he’s become a bit of a local,” he said.

“About three or four hours later the seal went back in the water and was swimming off so with any luck he’s going to make a full recovery.”
