Hazard reduction burns for Mimosa Rocks National Park

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning to conduct hazard reduction burns in Mimosa Rocks National Park, just north of Tathra, on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April, weather permitting.

The hazard reduction burns intend to treat approximately 70 hectares of bushland between Dr George Mountain Road and the Mount Peter Fire Trail area and about 200 hectares off Reedy Swamp Road within Mimosa Rocks National Park.

The planned burns will help to improve protection for rural properties and the nearby Tanja and Tathra community in the event of future bushfires.

Planned, low intensity burns also aim to improve the park’s biodiversity and provide safer access for firefighters.

Traffic control will be in place on Dr George Mountain Road. The Mount Peter Fire Trail and sections of Goats Knob Rd, Kings Ridge Fire Trail, Quarry Road and Reedy Swamp Road will be closed for the duration of the burn.

For their safety, the public should not enter this area while the operation is underway. Roads and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.

Smoke may be visible to visitors in other areas of the national park and from surrounding areas, including Tanja.

Motorists should use caution when driving on Dr George Maintain Road and Tathra Bermagui Road.
