Alarming new evidence has been released about the abuse of some of our most vulnerable here on the Far South Coast.
A new report from the NSW Aging and Disability Commission reveals it received 83 reports of abuse in the Bega Valley and 87 in the Eurobodalla between 2019 and 2024.
Commissioner Jeff Smith said the abuse is usually being delivered by those close to them.
“The abuse is predominately being done by the adult children of older people and for adults with disability it is commonly their parents,” Commissioner Smith said.
“Very few reports come from people who are the subject of the abuse,” he said.
“That’s partly due to them not having access to a telephone or they may have accessibility needs, which make it difficult for them to reach out.”
