The State Opposition has slammed plans to move all local bail hearings away from the Far South Coast courts.
Under the plan, the government will centralise decisions on releasing accused criminals to Parramatta Bail Court in Sydney’s west.
Shadow Police Minister Paul Toole said it’s ridiculous decision that needs to be reversed.
“Anyone living on the Far South Coast would be concerned about this because it means that every person that is actually charged with a criminal offence will actually have their bail application heard remotely from a magistrate in the city,” he said.
“So that means they’ll be doing an audio visual link but that’ll be going through to Parramatta. That’ll mean there’ll be no support for those people on the Far South Coast.”
