A man and young child have been rescued from a South Coast beach after making it to shore after their boat capsized in rough seas in the Tuross Head river mouth yesterday (March 15).

Concerned onlookers called triple zero around 8am on Wednesday when they noticed an upside down boat in the water at the Tuross Head river mouth.

After getting a call from one of the onlookers, local drone operator, Maree Jackson, found the boat in the water, upside down then discovered a man on a remote beach with the word ‘HELP’ written in the sand.

The Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter retrieved the man in his 30’s and the child under the age of five, from a remote beach near Potato Point in the Eurobodalla around 10am on Wednesday.

A NSW Ambulance Spokesperson told East Coast Radio it was nearly a tragic incident.

“It is a reminder for anyone on the water to always wear a life jacket and carry an emergency beacon,” the spokesperson said.

“Both patients had swallowed a large amount of sea water.”

Paramedics treated the man for cuts to his legs, hypothermia and administered oxygen, while the boy was assessed at the scene and also given oxygen.
