Bega Valley Shire Council is moving to position their workforce as key contributors to the local community instead of being the subjects of abuse from the public.
Local Government Week being used to launch the We Live Here, We Work Here campaign.
Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said it’s designed to shine a spotlight on the people behind the services.
“Most people interact with Council services every day, often without even thinking about it,” Mayor Fitzpatrick said.
“When you drop your kids at sport, visit a playground or park, visit the library, take your rubbish out, turn your tap on, or drive to a friends house, Council has played a role in making that happen,” he said.
”We have hundreds of dedicated staff spread across the shire working to deliver the services our community relies on and we are continuing to ensure local kids see working with Council as a career option.
“We are also continuing to invest in local talent through our cadetship, traineeship and apprenticeship programs, with around 10 per cent of our workforce developing their skills through these opportunities.”
Through the We Live Here, We Work Here campaign, residents will learn more about our staff and the work they deliver for Council and how they contribute more broadly to the community.
“Our staff have a genuine connection to this region because they are part of it,” Mayor Fitzpatrick said.
“They volunteer in local organisations, coach junior sport, attend community events and raise their families here. They care deeply about the places they serve because they call the Bega Valley home too,” he said.
The We Live Here, We Work Here campaign will be featured across Council’s social media channels.
