Bega Valley Shire Council has moved to reassure the community there is currently no intention to increase rates by 52 percent at this stage.
Earlier this week Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick outlined three options to the Far South Coast Newsroom contained in draft long term planning documents.
Option A would see rates go up 52%, Option B 28% and only the standard rate pegged amount of 4.9% is Option C.
But Council CEO Anthony McMahon said the current intention is to limit rate rises to 4.9 percent.
“At the moment for the next four years that this council is planning to deliver is just assuming only receiving the rate peg amount,” he said.
“We aren’t looking at anything too extensive with what’s proposed over the next four years but we are articulating the different scenarios going forward if the community were of a mind to do more than the standard rate peg.”
