A new levee at Surfside West is officially completed.
Eurobodalla Shire Council said the 190-metre long and 10-metre wide raised embankment has been designed to protect low-lying areas from coastal flooding.
It was built using 2,700 tonnes of rock and topped with sand and soil as part of the $12 million Batemans Bay coastal protection works project.
The council said Caseys Beach is the next cab off the rank to receive protection from coastal inundation.
The work to boost the existing seawall, which has come under increasing pressure in recent years, to stop easterly lows pushing water up and over Beach Road.
The $7-million project, to use 21,000 tonnes of new and existing rock, is designed to last 30 years.
The work comes as residents along Myamba Parade in Surfside continue to seek a long-term solution to protest their home from flood inundation. The once protective sand dunes have been washed away in recent years with some properties losing 12 metres of their backyards.
The council recently allocated $60,000 towards temporary emergency coastal inundation in the shire including at Surfside.
