Manager of Headspace Batemans Bay, Paul Spooner told East Coast Radio getting out and exercising as well as meeting new people is a great way to spend R U OK DAY.

“We thought we’d invited people down to Corrigan’s Beach Reserve to walk 4kms down to the foreshore where we will have some wellbeing activities happening,” Mr Spooner said.

The finish line will include a free sausage sizzle, coffee and a range of activities to promote wellbeing.

“There’ll be some yoga, some sound healing even some circus arts,” he said.

“It’s free and it’s a great opportunity to check in with everyone and do something healthy.”

Di Riley is the Community Engagement Officer at headspace and she said the team hope to encourage open conversations around mental health issues and build connections for anyone who is struggling with everyday life.

“Listening and giving someone your time might be just what they need to get them through the day,” Ms Riley said.

“People won’t always let you know if something’s bothering them, so it’s important to make asking ‘are you ok?’ a part of everyday conversations with friends, family, and colleagues. This simple act of starting and engaging in conversation could be what changes another person’s life.”

The walk will commence at 10am and conclude at 12pm with the celebration and activities ending at 2pm.

The event is free for all attendees; however, headspace are asking people to register their attendance at Eventbrite, via the QR code or to head over to the headspace Batemans Bay web page.
