Accused child sex abuser pleads not guilty

A local army veteran will face the District Court in Sydney today for a short mention charged with a string of child sex offences.

66-year-old Christopher Roberts pleaded not guilty to the offences including indecently assaulting a child under 10 and sexual intercourse with a child under 10 when he fronted Batemans Bay Local Court earlier this week.

Roberts was called back to the court by Magistrate Doug Dick after leaving so he could ensure Roberts knew he would forgo an automatic sentence reduction if he pleaded not guilty but was later convicted of the charges.

He told Magistrate Dick he did and reaffirmed his not guilty pleas.

The charges relate to allegations dating back to 2014.
