How to be a Games Master!

Here’s your chance to learn how to run tabletop role playing games with your friends, using the storytelling classic Dungeons & Dragons.

Learn from two experienced local game masters who will share their best practices and favourite hacks with you. In real time, you’ll learn how to run a table-top role playing game. The workshop will run as two groups – one for beginners and one for more experienced players. No matter what your level, come along and start your GM adventure! (Ages 12+)

Beginner:

If you haven’t played D&D before or have very little experience and want to build your confidence, this workshop will provide an introduction to telling a story, running your first session and teach you to bend the rules, and to create dynamic and colourful storytelling. You’ll learn how to act with your voice, introduce a character, battle as the enemy and meet like-minded people who love the game!

Intermediate:

This workshop is for those who have played D&D before and want to learn new ways to create compelling stories and fun gaming experiences. You know the basics of the game and have played as a player or game master before. You’ll learn how to prep your first session, create a scence and choose your monsters. Participants will prep and run a D&D session, creating and developing their own storyline in real time.

Your Games Masters for the day:

Robin Spinks
Robin has 10 years’ experience as a Game Master, with campaigns spanning fantasy, western and science fiction themes. He runs Pobblebonk Games, the local studio behind Whizbang and Grow the Future: the Card Game.

Larissa Bertella
Larissa’s on staff at our libraries and is the Game Master for Bega’s popular D&D at the Libraries. Completed her first campaign last year (a swash-buckling pirate adventure) and is keen to share the experience from the otherside.

Light refreshments will be provided but we recommend bringing a packed lunch as there will be a midday break.
