Down South Jazz Club: An Evening With Leisa at Club Sapphire
On Thursday 19th February the Down South Jazz Club is delighted to bring back to the stage of Club Sapphire the ever-popular vocalist and pianist from Canberra, Leisa Keen. On this occasion Leisa will be joined by a very special guest performer.
After training in classical piano for 12 years, Leisa went on to study jazz vocals at the Canberra School of Music, under the direction of Gery Scott, for 6 years. It was here that she also gained the valuable writing and arranging skills that have assisted in her musical direction and performance, making her one of Canberra’s, Sydney’s and the Gold Coast’s most sought-after accompanists and musical directors. She has been working in the Australian music industry for over 30 years in both jazz and musical theatre/cabaret. She has shared the stage with many internationally acclaimed jazz vocal artists.
In her spare time, Leisa performs around Canberra, Sydney and the Gold Coast as a piano vocalist in various venues, and with several of her jazz combos, including The Leisa Keen Trio, John Mackey and Leisa Keen Jazz Duo, The Blamey Street Big Band, Leisa and the Keen Kats, and O Christmas Trio. She also frequently accompanies other artists in Canberra, Sydney and the Gold Coast, as well as taking her various bands to jazz festivals all over Australia. Leisa also teaches singing and piano.
This special evening of jazz will cost $20 for jazz club members and $25 for visitors with music commencing at 7.30 pm (doors open at 7 pm). Bookings can be made by sending an email to bookings@downsouthjazzclub.org.au. You can also call Pam or George on 0479 065 590, or just turn up on the night and pay at the door.
