Learn about our endangered shorebirds

In recognition of National Threatened Species Day, join us to learn about our local endangered beach nesting birds and what you can do to help protect them. Species profiled include the critically endangered Hooded Plover, as well as Pied and Sooty Oystercatchers, Little and Fairy Terns, and other beach residents such as the Red-capped Plover and Beach Stone-curlew.

Families and kids are welcome to come along and take part in the hooded plover tote bag activity.

Presented by Peter Collins, who has volunteered with the NPWS south coast Shorebird Recovery Program for the past 20 years, including as a site warden at the Mogareeka shorebird colony and other south coast shorebird sites. A former NPWS Discovery Ranger, Peter studied Marine Biology at James Cook University.

The Shorebird Recovery Program celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2025. It is coordinated by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and is happy to welcome new volunteers. Free event. Bookings are required.
