An improvement in the number of patients being seen within expected timeframes in the Emergency Department (ED) at South East Regional Hospital at Bega even though the average waiting time blew out by almost an hour.
The Bureau of Health Information reports there were a total of 5586 ED presentations in January, February and March.
Bureau Senior Director Alison Witchard said that’s a fall of seven percent compared to the same quarter last year.
“Patients also spent more time in the ED with the median time from arrival to leaving up 48 minutes to three hours and 43 minutes,” Ms Witchard said.
“However 74% of patients started their treatment on time and that’s up 5%,” she said.
The result comes after the NSW Nurses and Midwives Association told us that only half of the 14 new nursing jobs funded by the State Government last year in the ED at South East Regional have been filled.
More people are presenting to the Emergency Department at Moruya Hospital according to the Quarterly Report released today.
3407 attendances were recorded to the Moruya Hospital ED in the March Quarter, an increase of four percent on the year earlier.

There’s been a significant drop in the number of people going to Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department less than a year out from its planned closure.
The same report from the Bureau of Health Information shows there were 2696 presentations to the ED at Batemans Bay Hospital between January and March this year.
This represents a fall of ten percent from a year ago.
