Access to commercial sea plane flights to and from Batemans Bay could now be one step closer.
Work has just been completed on the construction of a new pontoon on the town’s waterfront to accommodate larger aircraft to land and take-off.
Batemans Bay Business Chamber Vice President Charles Stuart said unfortunately it’s almost been back to the drawing board after a commitment from the previous owner of Sydney Seaplanes flew away.
“Unfortunately as time overtook those discussion he sold the business about 12 months ago,” Mr Stuart said.
“I am speaking to the new owner. He’s expressed some interest in starting a commuter service between Rose Bay and here so those discussion are ongoing but who knows,” he said.
The project was delivered as part of a joint funding initiative with the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, Catalina Gold Club and the State Government.
The new pontoon includes a mobility hoist to allow better access to boats and commercial-sized seaplanes.

Local State MP Michael Holland said the community needs to look at things through a disabled lens.
“It’s easy to think about what we’re able to do with our abilities as simply as going up and down that ramp or walking down the street,” Dr Holland said.
“We should consider everyone. I mean who wouldn’t want to experience the wonderful Batemans Bay esturary,” he said.
