A report on the condition of the Cuttagee Bridge has recommended replacing it because of the extent and severity of deterioration.
The assessment follows a detailed inspection by expert engineers over several days in late January this year.
The report has labled the rehabilitation option as complex, high-risk and costly given the age, condition and location of the bridge.

“It states…Steel elements exhibit extensive corrosion and section loss and all timber elements has major deterioration, checking, and splitting.
“Additional defects include moisture rot, splitting, and fungal growth.

The concrete piers also exhibited exposed and corroded steel reo.

The experts also recommend Bega Valley Shire Council conduct routine maintenance and implement appropriate risk-management strategies if any signs of further structural distress are observed.
The council voted in November last year to build a replacement two lane concrete bridge but only have half of the $30 million funding needed to move forward with the project.
