The national capital and Victoria are being targeted in a new ‘We’re Closer Than You Think’ campaign to attract more visitors to a Far South Coast town.
Merimbula Tourism officials reminding Canberrans and Victorians the town is one of the most appealing low-drive holiday destinations this autumn and into winter.
Merimbula Tourism Manager Hannah Marshall said the campaign has been prompted by higher petrol prices.
“We have the most incredible public transport options to get here so there are plenty of different ways of getting to Merimbula,” Ms Marshall said.
“From the south the Victorian Government is also offering free public transport so visitors can travel up here for free,” she said.
“We’ve got everything ready. Just get the legs working and walk around,” she said.
Tourism operators in Merimbula are getting set for a bumper trade over Easter.
Accommodation options in the town are pretty much booked out for the long weekend.
“I think we’ve been pretty lucky so far. Lot’s of people had their accommodation booked in ahead of time which meant that they’ve already paid their money and they’re already waiting and excited to come to Merimbula,” she said.
“We haven’t seen mass cancellations or anything like that but I do predict there might be a bit of change to spending patterns once they’re here.”
