New promised bulk billing clinic opens in Bega Valley

Access to a bulk billing GP will be available seven days a week in the Bega Valley from this weekend.

The Federal Government delivering on a pre-election promise to open a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Bega.

The new service will operate from the existing Bega Valley Medical Practise in Carp Street.

The centre will start this Saturday and operate between 8am and 6pm every day.

“This clinic will take pressure off the local hospitals, including the South East Regional Hospital, and will fill an important gap in services across extended hours and over the weekend,” Minister for Health and Ageing Mark Butler said.

Federal Eden-Monaro MP Kristy McBain congratulated Bega Valley Medical Practice.

“I’m thrilled the new Bega Urgent Care Clinic will soon be up and running,” she said.

“This clinic will offer walk-in care to the community for a range of urgent treatments such as minor burns, cuts or infections, insect bites, respiratory illnesses, urinary tract infections or minor fractures.”

COORDINARE – South Eastern NSW PHN CEO Prudence Buist said this new Medicare UCC will make it easier for people on the Far South Coast to get the urgent treatment they need – from highly qualified doctors and nurses.

“The clinic will be completely bulk-billed meaning that people needing urgent but non-life-threatening care will save on out-of-pocket costs,” she said.

“The Bega clinic will support health system resilience by providing timely care locally and complementing local GP and community health services.”
