Moruya business operators have renewed their call for CCTV cameras to be placed in the town in light of the recent firebombing incident.
Several local businesses were called on to provide footage to police after a new supermarket in Vulcan Street that sold tobacco products was set alight early in the morning.
They say police would be behind the eight ball investigating the incident if it wasn’t for their video footage of the incident.
The town’s business chamber president Rob Pollack says this is further proof a CCTV network needs to be set up in the CBD.
“If it wasn’t for a lot of the business owners in our community then you wouldn’t of been able to see this was a blatant arson attack,” he said.
“It’s quite clear on the footage from some of the local businesses around town and from that I think the government needs to learn some lessons around CCTV use in rural communities.
“What’s clear here, as I mentioned to Yasmin Catley when she was here several months ago, is that CCTV cameras in our township, in certain areas are absolutely crucial to stop time.”
