The father of a man accused of being in possession of a hand gun and ammunition has offered a $10,0000 bond or more if required so his son could be released on bail.
Batemans Bay Local Court was told yesterday 26-year-old Ordie Olah was he was pulled over by police on Friday on George Bass Drive at Lilli Pilli, who subsequently raided his Malua Bay home.
Police told the court they also uncovered a clandestine drug lab inside the property, as well as a hand printed hand gun, a 3D printer and ammunition.
A media release from police issued later in the day stated “Specialist police from the Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Unit, the Technical Forensic Support Unit and NSW Fire & Rescue attended to dismantle the lab.”
“The 25-year-old man was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station, where he was charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, acquire etc pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order and acquire etc pistol part – subject to prohibition order.”
But his lawyer Adam Sumback argued Olah should be granted bail because there is no suggestion in the facts that state the printer was used to make the gun and he has not been charged with any drug offences.
He offered a number of offsets to any concerns about his release including reporting to police as much as required and a daily curfew.
But Magistrate Doug Dick refused the bail application.
He told the court Olah’s record is building with 16 charges now to his name and a custodial sentence is likely if convicted.
He is yet to enter a plea to the charges.
