A six metre whale spine that has been slowly rotting at the south end of Wonboyn Beach known as 'Greenglades' has been the subject of interest far and wide.

NSW Parks and Wildlife Service said the service was aware of the situation  and is currently assessing the site and possible removal options.

Wonboyn locals and owner of the Wonboyn Caravan Park, Sara Burch said it's great to have something a little different to attract people to the area.

"We're really excited to have something so rare and exciting in our small town of Wonboyn... and it's really great for the town especially after the fires," she said.

"We'd love to see it stay put and preserved in Wonboyn."
