In South Coast Monaro rugby union in the men's first grade division the Batemans Bay Boars got off to a good start for the season on the weekend, when they beat newcomers to the comp the Hall Bushrangers, 17 points to 11 at Hanging Rock. In a nail biter from start to finish the Boars scored a converted try at the 78th minute to win.
In other games the Bungendore Mudchooks 43 beat Braidwood Redbacks 38. The Jindabyne Bushpigs 29 beat Crookwell Dogs 24. The Taralga Tigers 71 beat Cooma Devils 10 points.
In the 2nd round of Group 16 rugby league in the men's competition the Bega Roosters continued their sound early season form form when they defeated the Batemans Bay Tigers 26 points to 16 at the Bega Rec Ground.
Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs made it two wins from two games when they defeated Snowy River Bears 44 to 14 at Jindabyne. The Cooma Stallions also made it two wins from two games with a comfortable 44 - 6 win over the Eden Tigers. The Bombala Blue Heelers finished too strong for the Narooma Devils winning 34 -14 after the Narooma Devils held a half time lead of 14 points to 10, and the Moruya Sharks completed a strong second half performance to defeat the Tathra Sea Eagles 26 points to 10 at the Tathra Country Club.
