Drink driver hits child near Sydney school

A nine-year-old girl has been injured after a drunk driver allegedly mounted a footpath outside a Sydney school.

The girl and a woman, aged 37, were taken to hospital in a stable condition after they were struck in Girraween about 3.10pm on Friday, police say.

The Mercedes then allegedly continued through the school zone, into two parked cars and through a fence before stopping in a backyard.

The 39-year-old driver later recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.164 - more than three times the legal limit.

The Wentworthville man's licence was suspended and he's due to face a charge of high-range drink driving in Fairfield Local Court on August 20.
